A targeted examination in your care plan
A symptom, an examination finding or a laboratory result may suggest looking more closely at a particular area. In HLC care, ultrasound can help connect those observations with visible anatomy. The result is most useful when the referral clearly states what the clinician needs to know.
What the visit involves
Gel is applied to the skin and a handheld probe is moved over the area. You may be asked to change position or briefly hold your breath. A Doppler examination can add information about blood flow when that is the question. The Prague catalogue describes abdominal, thyroid and vascular examinations; the exact region is agreed before booking.
Preparation and the written finding
Preparation depends on the region: an abdominal examination may have different food or bladder instructions from a thyroid scan. The report describes the assessed structures, relevant measurements, findings and any limits to visibility. A normal result in one area does not exclude a problem elsewhere or replace a different imaging method when needed.
