Laboratory tests

Hormone testing

Hormones vary with time, life stage and treatment. A well-chosen test helps connect symptoms with the right measurement—whether that is a blood concentration, a daily pattern or changes across a menstrual cycle. This makes the result more useful for a clinical decision.

Scope and price are confirmed with the team before booking. Where a published price exists for your clinic, it is shown on the programme or clinic page.

Available assessment approaches
A timed dried-urine profile, cycle mapping with a broader profile, or an expanded hormone/metabolite panel. Depending on the selected kit, the expanded panel may combine urine and saliva.
Blood tests
Blood measurements answer different questions and are ordered separately as specified by the clinician.
Timing matters
The kit determines collection times, cycle days and handling. Record medicines, hormone therapy, sleep and symptoms.

The exact test or procedure, preparation, clinician and price are agreed for your location before booking.

In detail

Why this matters in HLC care

Changes in sleep, energy, menstrual patterns, sexual health or recovery can have several causes. Hormone testing is most useful when the clinician defines the question first and chooses a method that can answer it. A broad report does not replace assessment of symptoms, medical history and conventional blood tests where indicated.

What the profiles can show

Depending on the order, the report can include estrogen and progesterone-related metabolites, androgens, DHEA, cortisol and cortisone patterns, and a melatonin-related marker. Selected panels add organic acids or other markers. The clinic confirms the included analytes before you collect samples.

Urine can show how hormones are excreted and metabolised. Saliva may be used for specific timed cortisol measurements, including a waking pattern when that protocol is ordered. Neither should be treated as interchangeable with every blood hormone measurement. A value described as a serum equivalent is a calculated estimate, not a blood draw.

A daily profile or a cycle profile?

A daily profile relates measurements to collection times within a day. Cycle mapping follows selected hormones or metabolites over multiple days to place symptoms and changes into a menstrual timeline. The two approaches add different kinds of information and require different collection plans.

Reference ranges may differ with sex, menstrual phase, menopause and hormone use. The report needs this context to be interpreted correctly. A cycle pattern alone does not establish fertility or automatically indicate hormone replacement.

How to make collection useful

Before starting, confirm the kit, exact schedule, sample storage and return arrangements. Record actual collection times rather than planned times. Tell the team about shift work, irregular cycles, pregnancy where relevant, all medicines and supplements, and any recent hormone dose change.

Do not stop prescribed treatment on your own. The clinician decides whether the test should describe your current treated state or answer another question. If a collection is missed or mistimed, contact the team before continuing.

What happens after the report

Interpretation focuses on the findings that relate to your symptoms and could change care. The next step may be a targeted blood test, observation, a specialist consultation or a treatment discussion. Ratios or colour flags in a report are not automatic instructions to take hormones, “detox” products or supplements.

What the report describes

Illustrative report structure
MeasureIllustrative valueWhat it would indicate
Collection timelineWaking → daytime → eveningEach point belongs to an actual sample time and the protocol used; a curve is more informative when timings are recorded correctly.
Hormone or metaboliteUrinary hormone metaboliteThe report must identify what was measured and the sample type before a value can be compared.
